Composing through Literacy

This practical, multi-media one-day course will explore composing in the classroom, focusing on how literacy can be used to stimulate creativity in music. The course will demonstrate the exciting new resources Sing me a Story and Sounds Creative, and include video excerpts demonstrating real practice. The course is designed for music co-ordinators and general class teachers of key stages 1 and 2, as well as advisers and inspectors working in the primary phase.

Course aims

  • Demystify composing and exemplify progression
  • Illustrate how literacy can be used as a starting point for composing
  • Explore exciting new resources recently commissioned by ACCAC (Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales)
  • Demonstrate ways of managing composing with whole classes and groups
  • Offer strategies for assessing and recording achievement in composing

Musical instruments for the day will be supplied by LMS Music Supplies. LMS displays a vast array (i.e. a VAN LOAD!) of quality classroom instruments and teaching resources. You are encouraged to try these out - PLEASE DO TOUCH!
